Dr. Matthew Carpenter is a native Pinevillean. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University, he went on to earn his Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.
Since founding Carpenter Eye Associates in 1985, Dr. Carpenter has provided comprehensive eyecare to patients in the community and surrounding areas.
Dr. Carpenter brings over 35 years of experience to the practice. He continues to enjoy providing primary eyecare, specializing in contact lenses.
Matthew B. Carpenter, O.D.

Deborah Black, O.D.
Dr. Deborah Black is a native Pinevillean who completed her undergraduate studies at UNC Chapel Hill. She earned her Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.
After completing her doctorate, Dr. Black joined her father in his private practice of Optometry where she practiced for 30 years.
Dr. Black joined Carpenter Eye Associates in 2016, where she continues to provide primary eye care, treating ocular diseases and refractive conditions.
Dr. Black welcomes new patients of all ages.
